Theme: It’s the Little Things
April 20, 2015
Quintessence
The embodiment,
the purest distillation,
the deepest spirit.
The deepest spirit of a thing,
like whisky’s fire and rose petal flame,
purifier of dross, alloy,
and half-hearted blend;
too strong, so strong,
like a perfect poem, well-timed and tight,
on point, no peel,
a nerve exposed,
a currency wire.
Were we the quintessence of ourselves,
we might be the intensest things,
the Moses of the shining face,
cloth-covered and unbearable to sight:
the shine, the hum, the shock,
the blue-eyed energy burn.

It’s lovely. Intense too.
Thank you, Antonia. I think a lot of good poetry is intense, and so I aspire to it in my writing, I suppose.

Thank you, Maz! I’ll stop by yours, too.
