Not This
A mostly found(ish) poem and rhythmic exploration from Liz Gilbert’s Facebook post
We are in the wrong…
Not this.
Not this.
The problem is
there’s no Plan B…
Not this.
Your body
heart
and soul
are saying no,
not this.
Your deepest life force
won’t be hushed, says no,
not this.
This is all we have,
your brain says; no,
not this.
The moment of realization’s not fun,
but it says,
not this.
I don’t know what life’s supposed to be
but it’s
not—not—this.
It’s crazy, insane, imprudent
and yet still it’s nope,
not this.
It might get better,
it might get worse,
but it’s still
not this.
You’re throwing away what’s perfectly good;
matters not,
not this.
You don’t need to know where you’re going
to know that it’s
just
not
this.

Interesting effect to take Elizabeth Gilbert’s piece and make it into a poem. I really like the way this came out.
Thank you. I do, too! It’s been beating a rhythm in me for several days now.
Your poetry stirs deep emotions, and makes people think about the things they do not want to do.
Thank you! And things they want to quit doing, or start doing.
Wow – this is extraordinary. I’ve been haunted by that piece, also. It just won’t let me alone. Thank you for the gift.
Thank you. Thank Liz Gilbert!
Oh, Ros. I simply love this. Not This touched me, too. I have walked away from Not This before. Finally…there is THIS. YES, THIS.
Thank you. Working on that.
As always, I am drawn to what you write. Very nice.
Thank you.
