We’ll return to our series, right after this.
<shameless ad, just because I’m a fan>
Sarah McLachlan has a new album out, and I’ve been giving it heavy rotation…particularly because of this song. Love, love, love.
IN YOUR SHOES
by Sarah McLachlan
(lyrics video here–listen to it and tell me it doesn’t make you want to conquer the world)
You turn the radio on play your favorite song and cry… cry
You let it all disappear push back the doubt and fear they try… try
To hold your head under the waves but you’re breathing all the same
You are stronger than their hate
Time for you to walk out walk in your own shoes
Lay down your footprints wherever you choose
Leave it all behind and move on you are your own woman
You never asked for trouble but you’ve got fire that burns so bright… bright
You turn and face the struggle when all the others turn and hide… hide
You hold your head above the waves above the war they try to wage
You are stronger than their hate
Time for you to walk out walk in your own shoes
Lay down your footprints wherever you choose
Leave it all behind and move on ’cause you are your own woman
Time for you to walk out walk in your own shoes
Lay down your footprints wherever you choose
Leave it all behind and move on you are your own woman move on yeah
Time for you to walk out walk in your own shoes
Lay down your footprints wherever you choose
Say what’s on your mind with pride ‘cause you are your own woman
You’ve got a light that always guides you
You speak of hope and change as something good
Live your truth and know you’re not alone
You turn the radio on play your favorite song and sing out so loud

My husband LOVES Sarah McLachlan! A few years ago I surprised him and took him to see her perform at the Hollywood Bowl with the symphony…holy moly was she AMAZING!!!!! She’s coming to San Diego at the end of June; unfortunately, it’s the same day we get back from our UK/Ireland trip. 😦
She IS amazing, Iris. I love watching how she grows. I love her appreciation of beauty. I know, though–I think I may miss this tour, too (though I’ve gotten to see her a couple of times). Love this song.
Great song! Sarah should send you a little thank you for being her biggest fan.
Haha, Denise. I’m hardly her biggest fan! But I *am* a steady one. 🙂 I’ll just happily take more kickass songs.
Some of the best lyrics I have heard in a long time. Thanks for pointing them out. Will have to go and find that song/album now.
I’m glad you enjoyed it, Linda. The music just fits this anthem well, to my taste. She has another on the album, “If This Is Love,” that I really adore, too. She does some amazing things with lyrics but also with music. (The music on her album “Fumbling Toward Ecstasy” still constitutes some of my favorites of all time.)
I have some of her music. Just not this newest album. I think your music break was a great post.
